Real support. Deep understanding.
A better way forward.
A psychology-led, multidisciplinary approach to weight management

for people seeking more than advice alone.
Why MCW exists
Weight management is rarely just about food or willpower.
For many people, it involves biology, emotion, habits, stress, identity, relationships, discouragement, and the challenge of trying to make change last in real life.
Montreal Comprehensive was created to respond to that reality.
Our work is built on a simple idea: lasting progress usually requires more than good intentions or general advice. It requires a thoughtful process that takes the full human side of weight management seriously.
Today, people come to us through different doors. Some are looking for support around weight-loss medication. Some are preparing for or recovering from bariatric surgery. Others are struggling with emotional eating, self-sabotage, or the deeper psychology of change.
What unites all of this work is the same core belief: sustainable progress depends on understanding the whole person.
What makes us different
Psychology is central, not optional
For many people, the hardest part of change is not knowing what to do. It is staying engaged, working with emotion, recovering after setbacks, and changing patterns that have become deeply familiar.
That is why psychology is not an add-on in our model. It is one of the core pillars.
We are compatible with medication and surgery
We do not position ourselves against medical treatment. We work with people who are using weight-loss medication, considering bariatric surgery, or moving through those processes.
Our role is to help people build the behavioral and psychological side of success in real life.
We offer multidisciplinary support
Depending on the situation, support may involve psychology, nutrition, physical activity guidance, or a combination of these.
Some people need targeted help. Others benefit from a broader and more structured plan.
We are focused on lasting change
Our goal is not only weight loss. It is better self-regulation, better habits, greater stability, and a stronger foundation for long-term health and well-being.
Our approach
Our approach is respectful, practical, and grounded in both clinical experience and scientific understanding.
We recognize that people often arrive feeling discouraged, ashamed, confused, or tired of approaches that have not worked for them in the past.
We do not begin with blame. We do not assume the answer is simply more discipline. And we do not treat people as though their struggle can be reduced to one factor alone.
Instead, we try to understand what is actually maintaining the problem, what is already working, where the leverage points are, and what kind of support is most likely to help.
That may involve building structure, addressing emotional eating, strengthening motivation, improving follow-through, working with stress, involving the family, or integrating support around medication or surgery.
In every case, the aim is the same: to help people move toward health with more clarity, less shame, and a more realistic chance of lasting change.
Led by Dr. Stephen Stotland
Montreal Comprehensive was founded by Dr. Stephen Stotland, psychologist, researcher, professor, and long-time clinician in the field of obesity and weight management.
His work has focused on the psychology of eating, self-regulation, emotional coping, motivation, and long-term behavior change.
The vision behind MCW is to bring this psychological depth into a broader, more practical system of care — one that supports people not only in understanding themselves, but in making meaningful changes that can hold up in real life.

Our values
Respect
People deserve help that is thoughtful, non-shaming, and grounded in real understanding.
Depth
Superficial advice is often not enough. We believe in looking beneath the surface of the struggle.
Practicality
Insight matters, but so do structure, follow-through, and realistic next steps.
Flexibility
Not everyone needs the same kind of help. We aim to match the level and type of support to the person.
Hope
Even when people feel discouraged or stuck, change remains possible. Our role is to help make it more understandable, more realistic, and more sustainable.
Who we serve
We work with adults, teens, and families facing a range of weight-related and eating-related challenges.
This may include people who:
- are using or considering weight-loss medication,
- are preparing for or recovering from bariatric surgery,
- struggle with emotional eating,
- feel caught in cycles of effort and discouragement,
- want a more complete and psychologically informed approach,
- or need support that goes beyond generic diet advice.
