For parents who want to help, but are not sure how
As a parent, you may feel caught in a difficult position.
You may see that your teen is struggling with weight, eating, confidence, mood, or motivation. You may worry about health, emotional well-being, social isolation, or the long-term path ahead. At the same time, you may fear that talking about weight too directly could make things worse.
That concern makes sense.
Many parents feel torn between wanting to help and not wanting to add pressure, shame, or conflict.
Our approach is designed to support both the teen and the family in a way that is thoughtful, respectful, and realistic.

This is not about blame, pressure, or another diet
For a teen, struggles with weight are often not only about food.

They may involve body image, shame, social stress, emotional eating, low confidence, withdrawal, family tension, or a discouraging history of trying and feeling unsuccessful.
This is why our work is not based on blame, pressure, or rigid dieting.
It is about helping teens feel better understood, more supported, and more able to build a healthier relationship with food, activity, and themselves.

Who this is for
This support may be a good fit if your teen is dealing with one or more of the following:
  • ongoing struggles with weight or eating,
  • emotional eating or eating in response to stress,
  • body image distress or social withdrawal,
  • low confidence or discouragement,
  • repeated cycles of trying and giving up,
  • family conflict around food, health, or motivation,
  • concern about binge eating or loss of control eating,
  • a need for a more supportive and psychologically informed approach.

How we help
Support may include:
  • helping parents approach the issue with more clarity and less conflict,
  • helping teens feel understood rather than judged,
  • reducing shame and all-or-nothing thinking,
  • addressing emotional eating and self-sabotage,
  • strengthening motivation, structure, and follow-through,
  • improving the relationship with food, activity, and self,
  • involving the family when appropriate,
  • creating a realistic path forward rather than another short-lived push.

Different kinds of support may be appropriate
Depending on the situation, support may include:

Individual work with the teen
For teens who need their own space to talk, reflect, and work on behavior, emotions, confidence, and self-regulation.
Parent or family-based support
For situations where patterns in the home, communication, or family dynamics are an important part of the picture.
Teen-adapted multidisciplinary support
For teens who may benefit from a broader plan that includes psychological, nutritional, and lifestyle support.
The right starting point depends on the teen, the family, and the nature of the difficulty.

A clear next step
1. Start with a parent consultation

The first step is usually a brief parent consultation to understand the situation, answer questions, and clarify what kind of support may make sense.
2. Clarify the most useful path
From there, we can recommend the best next step, which may include an assessment, individual support, family-based work, or a broader program structure.
3. Move forward thoughtfully
The goal is not to rush a teen into treatment. It is to find an approach that is clinically sound, emotionally safe, and realistic for the family.

Why this approach matters
Adolescence is a sensitive developmental period.

Weight-related struggles during this time can affect confidence, mood, identity, relationships, and long-term health behavior. A harsh or overly simplistic approach can backfire. A thoughtful, supportive approach can make a meaningful difference.
That is why we aim to help teens and families move toward health with more understanding, less shame, and a stronger foundation for lasting change.

Start with the right conversation.
If you are concerned about your teen’s weight, eating, or emotional well-being, a free parent consultation can help clarify the next step.

FAQ
Is this page meant for parents or teens?
Both — but usually the first step is taken by a parent. The process is designed to support the teen in a way that feels respectful and collaborative.
Does my teen need to be ready right away?
Not necessarily. Part of the process is figuring out how to approach support in a way that the teen can tolerate and, ideally, buy into.
Is this only about weight loss?
No. The work may involve emotional eating, confidence, body image, family tension, motivation, and the broader psychological side of health behavior.
Do parents have to be involved?
Often yes, at least initially. The exact level of parent involvement depends on the age of the teen, the nature of the difficulty, and what is most clinically useful.
